About the EESlmu Master's program
The EESlmu Master's program was initiated in 2007 and is designed for German and international students with a background in biology or a related subject. All courses are offered in English. The EESlmu Master's program contains many innovative elements such as a mentoring program, integrated skills courses and individual research training. We also provide feedback to students and encourage revisions of their work, rather than applying a simple grading system. Thanks to funding from the Volkswagen Foundation, students can apply for money to fund their own research and travel and to invite international speakers.

The EESlmu Master's program will prepare you for research and industry
The EESlmu Master's program will provide you with a broad biological background and will train you to become a critically thinking scientist. You will gain not only extensive research experience that will prepare you for a PhD program, but also valuable technical and communication skills that will prepare you for a job outside of academia. During the program, you will become familiar with the many techniques and approaches that are used in evolution, ecology and systematics research. These include micro-array techniques, field experiments, the use of natural history collections, mathematical modeling and modern genetic methods.

The EES Master's program was designed to complement excellent research with first-class teaching. With its student-centered approach, it was awarded the first prize in a competition for innovative educational concepts by the Volkswagen Stiftung.
If you are already at the LMU
If you are now a biology student at the LMU, you can switch to the Master's program after your 6th semester. To do this, you will need to obtain a Bachelor's degree for which you need: your Vordiplom, 30 SWS for Vorlesungen or Seminars, 30 SWS for Practical courses, and a Bachelor's thesis. The Bachelor's thesis is similar to a Diplomarbeit and takes 12 weeks including the writing of the thesis (20-70 pages). How to apply
To apply, you must have a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree in a natural science discipline, or show that you can realistically expect to finish your Bachelor’s before starting the Master’s program. Applications should include a CV, high school diploma (Hochschulreife or equivalent), Bachelor’s degree, letter of motivation, transcript of records, and a proof of proficiency in English (e.g., ToEFL 550 points). Deadline for applications will be January 31, 2010 (for students who need a visa to study in Germany) and June 30, 2010 (for all others - however, we strongly recommend that you send in your application by the earlier date).
