Prepare

1. Think about your main message and what you need to tell your audience to convince them of your message.

2. Make a schematic outline of the talk. Should fit on one A4. You should do this by hand.

3. Write a script. Leave some white space next to it (a quarter of the A4).

4. Try out your talk. Where do you need visual help?

5. Decide where in your story to put slides or drawings on the whiteboard. Put sketches in the whitespace of your script.

6. Make your powerpoint slides or prepare the drawings for the whiteboard.

7. Try it out again.

8. Prepare cards (Karteikarten) with the most important words of each paragraph in your script.

9. Try with the cards and without the script. What did you forget? Make an extra card for it.

10. During the talk you use the cards and not the script.

For a 5-min presentation, I would suggest to leave out the script, the cards, and the powerpoint, but not the schematic overview and the prepared drawing for the whiteboard.
