Demographic models in Drosophila melanogaster
I will be applying model-based inference methods to estimate parameters for demographic scenarios in Drosophila melanogaster. The aim is to understand in which context the species expanded its habitat and when the different sub-populations diverged from each other. The statistical parameter-estimation of demographic models is an important requirement for further selection-detection studies. Right now, I am using an Approximate Bayesian Computation method to estimate posterior distributions for different parameters given specific scenarios. This method requires a large number of simulations in order to sample from the joint distribution of parameters and pop-gen summary statistics.
