The IRT stands for Individual Research Training. There are 3 IRT modules (IRT1, 2 and 3), one during each of the first 3 semesters of the master program. In this module, students work in a lab, learn a method, and carry out a project. They write a report and give a presentation about their work.

Each IRT becomes more involved than the previous, with the IRT3 functioning as a preparatory project for the master thesis which is conducted during the fourth and final semester of the program. The IRT's have an associated skills course. For the IRT1 it is a scientific writing course, for the IRT2 a class designed to teach students how to ask questions in science. For the IRT3 the students will write the grant proposal for their master thesis.

Below are links to past IRT projects completed by EES master students, as well as possible IRT projects available in a variety of labs at or associated with the LMU Biology faculty.
