What’s new with the EESLMU?

The fifth cohort began their two week orientation session on October 4th, 2011. We are happy to welcome 18 new students, making this the biggest and most diverse cohort to date! The students come from Colombia, Cyprus, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Mexico, Poland, Puerto Rico, Thailand, Turkey, the UK and the US.

We also welcome three new faculty members - Prof. Dr. Herwig Stibor is the new professor for Aquatic Ecology. We have also been joined by PD Dr. Marc Gottschling from Systematic Botany and Mycology - he will be a part of the Curriculum Committee and the IRT3 Grant Proposal Committee - as well as by PD Dr. Björn Siemers from the Max-Planck Institute for Ornithology in Seewiesen. PD Dr. Jonathan Jeschke, who taught first semester courses and supervised many students, has taken a position at the TU München. He will remain a member of the EES extended faculty.

EES Conference 2011

Over 100 people took part in this year's EES Conference. It was a great opportunity to hear a wide range of PhD and Master talks, as well as three keynote speakers (Ralph Tollrian, Volker Löschke and Nadia Fröbisch). The winners of this year's EES Young Researchers Prize were Hsuan-Ju Chen(Master), Hendrik Frey (Master), Lena Müller (PhD) and Norbert Holstein (PhD).

We also said goodbye to the graduating class of 2011 and wish them the best of luck for their future careers.

Erasmus Mundus Master's Program in Evolutionary Biology (MEME)

After a successful first semester with the MEME students this past summer, we finally have an information guide online, which will hopefully help supervisors, current and future students to answer most questions arising in this fairly unique situation. Click here to go directly to our wiki site for the MEME program. Thank you all for helping to make the students from the "new" graduate school feel at home and for avoiding and removing glitches.

For more info, see the MEME website
