Bank Account

To make a bank transfer you need the following information - 1. Name of institution 2. Bank Code (For bank to transfer to) 3. Account Number 4. Tax ID number (optional) 5. Amount to be transfered

In order to get money into your account you either need to take cash out at the ATM (look into what the charges might be) and deposit it or you can make a wire transfer from your home account. Every bank is probably a little different, but this is the information that I needed for Washington Mutual in the USA -

International Bank Account Number (IBAN) Bank Identification Code (BIC) or SWIFT code Kontonummber (Account Number)

The number needs to be 22 characters long.

You can ask for the IBAN number at the bank and they will give you all of the information. I had to have a co-signer on my account make the transfer for me, but I think if you sign-up before you leave your home country you are able to make the transfer over the internet.

You will receive your EC card from your bank in the mail about one week after you sign up for your account. Until that point make sure you have cash on hand. Most places will not take credit cards or debit cards. For internet access after your account is set up I had to ask for my PIN number at the bank. You will also need TAN numbers to make any payments over the internet. You will receive that information in the mail.
